Math
- Kindergarten – Kindergarteners will learn to recognize and write numbers, perform basic addition, estimate quantities up to 20 and so much more in our kindergarten math class. The year is broken up into three segments, allowing students to build on what they learn every step of the way.
- First Grade – Students continue building on their mathematics foundation in their first grade math class. Some of the skills they will learn are reading, writing and counting numbers 0-100, describing basic addition properties; and basic subtraction.
- Second Grade – Second grade students’ math skills evolve greatly. Students become familiar with numbers up to 1,000, using manipulatives and numbers to show understanding of addition properties, consistently adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers with regrouping and 3-digit numbers without regrouping, and more.
- Third Grade – Upon completion of the third grade math program, students should be able to read, write, identify, count, order and compare values of numbers to 10,000; use objects or pictures to represent and explain fractional parts of a whole or set; and memorize and use addition and subtraction facts through 20.
- Fourth Grade – Fourth graders learn to convert decimals to fractions; demonstrate properties of multiplication, addition and subtraction in oral and written form; add and subtract fractions with like denominators and decimals to hundredths; and more.
- Fifth Grade – Upon completion of the fifth grade at Colorado Cyber, students should be able to order and compare numbers 0 - 1,000,000; demonstrate properties of division in oral and written form; and memorize and use multiplication and division facts 0 - 12.
Science
- Kindergarten – Students discover weather, the sky and seasons in the kindergarten science class. They learn to ask scientific questions, form hypotheses, understand the weather and seasons, and identify objects in the sky. Another portion of science class includes identifying plants and animals and learning about their basic needs.
- First Grade – First graders will learn how things move through force. This includes pushes and pulls and how magnets exert force. Students will also be introduced to the reasons why plants and animals need each other and the characteristics of the places they live.
- Second Grade – Students learn all about our Earth, including rocks, fossils and natural resources. They also learn how plants, animals and people grow and change.
- Third Grade – In the third grade science class, students will learn magnetic properties and forms of electrical energy. They will also discover the cycles on Earth and in space.
- Fourth Grade – Fourth grade students learn about ecosystems in their science class, including energy and matter cycles and biomes. They further explore energy, matter, forces and simple machines.
- Fifth Grade – In the fifth grade science class, students learn about systems in living things, such as digestive and respiratory systems and circulatory and excretory systems. They can also discover the solid earth with courses devoted to minerals, rocks and the structure of the Earth.
Language Arts
- Kindergarten – Some of the things students will learn in their reading class are upper- and lowercase letters, rhyming and the difference between fiction and non-fiction. Writing is another portion of kindergarten students’ language arts class. They’ll learn to write their names, write basic words, and identify spaces and punctuation.
- First Grade – First graders vastly improve their reading and writing skills in our language arts course. They learn to read and comprehend text, identify main ideas and story elements, improve their quality of writing through the writing process, and more.
- Second Grade – Reading and writing skills continue to excel for second graders. They begin to retell stories in a logical order with details, use comprehension strategies while reading, and use planning strategies (brainstorming, planning and webbing) to improve their writing skills.
- Third Grade – Third grade language arts students learn to identify different genres, summarize text passages, and identify main ideas and supporting details. Amongst many other skills, they will also learn to write single-paragraph pieces focused on one topic with supporting details, logical sequencing and transition words.
- Fourth Grade – Students should be able to apply structural analysis and context skills, use knowledge of literary elements and terms, and use all steps in the writing process to produce a final copy of a written work upon completion of their fourth grade language arts class.
- Fifth Grade – During the fifth grade, students at Colorado Cyber can begin to use new vocabulary in response to text and use knowledge of literary elements to enhance understanding of fiction text and much more. Their writing skills also improve as they begin to use appropriate resources to check written work and use varied forms of writing to address different purposes and audiences.
Social Studies
- Kindergarten – In kindergarten social studies, students will learn how they fit into the world around them. Curriculum includes reciting their own addresses and phone numbers, knowing some of their family traditions, and understanding why we have rules and laws.
- First Grade – The first grade social studies program expands students’ minds beyond borders! They learn about families around the world, their own families and how to celebrate our country.
- Second Grade – Map reading skills, community and important people in U.S. history are topics second graders discover in their social studies class.
- Third Grade – Students spend a great portion of time in their social studies classes learning about culture: how location and climate affect culture, what constitutes a culture, American culture, and more. Students will also learn about Native American communities and consumer awareness.
- Fourth Grade – In the fourth grade social studies class, students get an in-depth look at Colorado. They learn about Colorado’s geography, history, government, resources and more.
- Fifth Grade – Fifth graders gain map reading skills and explore U.S. history in the Colorado Cyber social studies program. Some of the topics they cover include colonization, the American Revolution, government and more.
Specials
- In K-5 Exploring Worlds and Languages, students will be introduced to a series of language goals in Spanish, Chinese and German.
- Third through fifth grade students participate in exploring music, including note reading, rhythmic notation and the language of music.
