What is an Online Education?

Online education combines creativity, problem solving and communication with technology to give students the skills necessary to thrive in today’s technology-driven world. Because students already use technology, online education is the ultimate tool for 21st century learners.

The foundation of online education is the virtual classroom. Benefits of the virtual classroom include:

• Flexibility in scheduling, live teacher instruction and feedback, and the opportunity to work independently
• The opportunity for students to interact with the teacher and classmates by oral and written communication
• Recorded virtual classes – all classes are recorded and archived for reviewing/playback purposes

Colorado Cyber is similar to a home school online, but Douglas County School District provides the curriculum. Your child can receive the same quality education online that they would in a Douglas County classroom. The curriculum is the same and the school year is the same, with increased flexibility in day-to-day activities.

More virtual classroom facts:

• Teacher-paced, synchronous learning
• Grades 6-12 have four 9-week grading periods; grades K-5 have three 12-week grading periods
• Courses run from September to June
• Follows same content as an asynchronous/self-paced option
• Virtual classroom option will only be offered with a minimum of 10 student requests
• Grades 7-12 take courses on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and/or Tuesdays and Thursdays
• Courses offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are 60 minutes in length
• Courses offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays are 1 hour and 20 minutes in length
